RE:COVID-19- EMERGENCY ROAD CHECK POINTS ENTERING PEGUIS FIRST NATION
Peguis First Nation is implementing security measure to reduce the risk and prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus in our community. Our community has many elders and vulnerable members and children. So we are taking this precautionary step to improve the safety of our community and our members . We have consulted with our surrounding First Nation communities of Fisher River Cree Nation and Kinonjeoshtegon First Nation, and received their support in establishing this security measure. Given that other surrounding communities are supportive of the immediate action, we will be setting up check points at all roads entering Peguis First Nation lands.
Membership to these communities will be allowed to enter/exit, but if they have been travelling out of Province we ask that they declare this and to go into self-isolation in order for us to monitor those in isolation . This is very important to notify health offices to make them aware so health can monitor for health reasons. As stated earlier, we do have a lot of elders’ and vulnerable people in our communities.
These check-points will limit the access of individuals entering Peguis and surrounding communities. Each check point will have a crew ranging from 2 – 4 individuals that will log the names of individuals entering the community, licence plate numbers of the vehicles, the company they represent and a contact number of those entering the community. We will also be screening to determine their travel history internationally and provincially . We will be asking to limit their visits to the community and surrounding area. We are also advising all our suppliers and contractors to remain out of community if the work deemed non-essential.
The locations of the check stops include:
– Poplar Lake Road at Johnny Beck’s
– West Harwill Road at Southwest Corner of Reserve Corner of Reserve
– John Watt Road
– Ashern Dike Road
– Old Ashern Road – PR 325W
– Mikinak’s West Road
– Hodgson side Road
– Cameron’s Road
– Provincial Highway 224
– Fish Road
– East Gravel pit Road (municipal road at Shelly McCorrister’s)
